Nancy’s presentation will discuss the need for safer supply and decriminalization and highlight emerging evidence from current research and practice.

About Our Speaker

Nancy Henderson is coming to us from Tkaronto (Toronto, ON), where they live, work, and play on the lands that should remain under the full jurisdiction of the Mississaugas of the Credit, Anishinaabeg, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples. Nancy is the Safer Supply Program Manager at the 360 Degree Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic in Nogojiwanong (Peterborough, ON). Nancy is also completing their Master’s in Nursing Science degree at Queen’s University in Kataroqwi (Kingston, ON), and has plans of continuing their academic journey with a PhD next year. Their topic of study is, and will continue to be, related to safer supply programs on land occupied by Canada. Nancy sits on numerous committees and working groups related to their work and education, including the steering committee for the Making the Shift Scholars with Lived Experience of Youth Homelessness Network and working groups for the Canadian Lived Experience Leadership Network and the National Safer Supply Community of Practice.

Nancy comes to this work drawing from their personal lens of lived experience of youth homelessness and substance use. They continue to share their experiences in order to inform by us and for us safer supply programming as well as to support the agenda for the decriminalization, legalization, and regulation of all drugs in order to put the role of drug choice and distribution back into the hands of the people who use them.
