NEW WEBSITE LAUNCH

The NSS-CoP team is thrilled to announce the launch of our new and improved website! Our site now hosts a resource library including over 500 resources relevant to safer supply guidance, protocols, research, evaluation, and advocacy. There is also a new interactive members-only forum, as well as links to previous and upcoming events and general information about safer supply and the NSS-CoP.

In the coming days, we will be activating your account. You will receive an email containing your username and temporary log in information. Once you log in, you will be prompted to select your own unique password. Once this is complete, you will have access to our forum where you can post topics and questions for discussion and communicate directly with the NSS-CoP membership.

We are still in the development stages of our new website and welcome any and all feedback and input about its functionality, design, and accessibility. We are also still in the early stages of building the "members-only" resources area and invite you to send us any relevant resources you'd like to see on the website.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at info@nss-aps.ca with any suggestions for how we can improve the site.

See you online!

FEATURED RESOURCES
  • Crackdown - Episode 29: Resign: There is a brand-new Crackdown Podcast episode available titled "Resign". Here is a brief description of the episode: "2,224 people died of toxic drug overdose in BC in 2021, says the Chief Coroner. How many months of fatal OD statistics have we seen since 2016? Fifty? Sixty? How many health and addictions ministers have passed through our lives as those numbers got bigger, only to move on after a few years? Enough. Politicians must face the music after another year of record-breaking overdose deaths. Since there’s no change, there must be consequences. Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Sheila Malcolmson and Minister of Health Adrian Dix must resign."

  • Finding Community Finding Hope - Cassandra Smith and the Path to Empowerment: Getting to Tomorrow, a project of the Canadian Drug Policy Coalition, recently released a new video featuring Cassandra Smith, a Harm Reduction Specialist with the Black CAP. Here is a brief description of the video: "As lived experience and history will attest, simply providing services and expecting people to overcome the impact of years of systemic oppression and trauma is a narrow, inaccurate view of reality for thousands of people confronting barriers in life. True support is rooted in compassion, suspends judgment, is trauma-informed, and focuses on building an infrastructure of support around people that is responsive and holistic–in short, a 'community.' Cassandra Smith’s story is a powerful testament to the impact a community can have in uplifting, empowering, and changing lives for the better. By focusing on the person, rather than simply the services provided to them, we can build a system for success that is authentically rooted in the lived realities of those in need."

  • NorWest Community Health Centres launched a one-year pilot of Lifeguard Digital Health’s Lifeguard App—a mobile app resource as part of NorWest Community Health Centres’ response to the overdose crisis in June of 2021. The Lifeguard App supports people who use drugs by providing a direct link to emergency responders in the event of an overdose. The app also provides information and resources for both people who use drugs and their broader communities, such as alerts on local supply contaminants, Naloxone and CPR instructions, Suicide and crisis support lines, and information about community services, mental health and addiction treatment services. NorWest Community Health Centres made the app available to the population of northwestern Ontario. Thanks to the efforts of several community partners and outreach workers across northwestern Ontario, the Lifeguard App has seen use in the five regions in which it is available. Through January 2022, nearly 800 people have downloaded the app, which has been used in over 7,000 individual sessions. NorWest is now seeking partners to sustain and potentially expand the implementation of lifeguard in communities across Ontario. They are hoping interested partners will consider earmarking year-end funds for this purpose. If this is of potential interest, please contact Juanita Lawson (JLawson@norwestchc.org) as soon as possible.
